Contest Number Two
The second contest in our club's history will be to colour the above lineart image, generously submitted by =Wicked-Little-Town The original image was submitted here: [link] and all comments regarding the lineart should be directed to that link, to the orginal artist. And now, onto the contest specifications... Rules (there are very few) 1) You may not alter the lineart in any way. This includes erasing, using line-altering adobe filters, smudging, whatever your devious mind would think of... don't do it! 2) You may not alter the background/border. All entries much remain on a WHITE background with a BLACK border. This is to discouage more experienced photoshop users from using brushes, filters, etc to gain an unfair advantage over competition. 3) You may not directly incorporate any other pictures. Photographs for shading may be used for refernce (but no.... transparent photograph overlays, or anything like that). Images submitted here must be 100% original artwork. I know that "colouring" an image may seem like a daunting task to those of you who are not familiar with photoshop, so I'll give you a mini tutorial/idea/suggestion list. First, I am familiar with Adobe Photoshop Elements or 7.0, and as such, I use them to create all my computer art, and therefore the following will be mainly related to photoshop. Luckily, those of you who do not have this program, can get your very own copy! Visit this site to download a copy: [link] Okay, so now that you have the program, here's a smallish tutorial of how to colour lineart on the computer: 1) open your file, and using the layers pallette on the top right of the screen, click the arrow and select "new Layer" 2) This will be the layer you use to colour (layer 1). Below the "layer" pallette title there is a dropdown box that currently says "normal" change this setting to "multiply". Now, everything that you colour will be multiplied by the black lines beneath, you can colour without having to stay in the lines! (how i wish someone had told me this when i started out...) 3) Colour however you like. Choose colours by double clicking the left colour well, and use a the paintbrush to apply colour (change size by clicking the down arrow beside your current brush). 4) for shading, use the "smudge" tool ( It looks like a hand pointing with one finger). Change the strength to around 40% (you can change it around based on how much smudging you want) and once you've applied a darker colour on top of the lighter, use this tool to blend the two colours together. *Note: If you want, add additional layers to seperate colours, this makes it easier to blend colours in shading (you won't overlap into another colour) Okay, I hope that clears things up a bit, How I WISH someone had written that for me when I didn't know how to use Adobe.... Well, good luck everyone! (please participate) Please send a note to let me knwo when you've completed your entry, and I'll add it to our gallery for voting purposes. thanks! ~Trizany-psycho |
